UPDATE: Course & Lecture activities 10-21 January 2011 |
| |
As part of the ORH activities, two weeks of lecture activities are scheduled. These activities are meant for selected young students, researchers and staff members who want to be introduced into elements of wave modelling, quickly leading to topics that are suitable for continuation with research activities (including BSc-, MSc and PhD-thesis work).
Series of lectures will take place in the morning accompanied by exercises and small projects in the early afternoon. Later in the afternoon various individual research lectures will take place.
A broad outline of the activities is as follows.
Lecture series:
10 - 12 January: Introduction into wave modelling (LMI-organizers)
13 – 21 January: Prof Guus Stelling (TUDelft, Neth.)
Topics:
1. Shallow water model and rapidly varying flows
2. Numerical approximations, including flooding and drying
3. Non-hydrostatic approximations and Wave breaking
4. Vertical structure
17 - 21 January: Dr. Gerbrant van Vledder (Alkyon & TUDelft, Neth)
Topics:
1. Introduction spectral modelling
2. SWAN software
3. Various cases
Late afternoon Research lectures:
• Dr. Nining S. Ningsih and Prof. Safwan Hadi (ITB) on aspects of geo-physical wave modelling.
• Prof. Brenny van Groesen (LMI & UTwente Neth): AB-models for efficient and accurate variational wave modelling
• Didit Adytia (LMI & UTwente Neth): Optimized Variational Boussinesq Modelling
• Dr. Wiwin Windupranata (LMI & ITB): SWAN simulations on domains with a new unstructured grid generator
• others....
Registration
Interested participants should register online at www.labmath-indonesia.org/Events or in one pdf-document by email to international@labmath-indonesia.org and submit an updated CV and a letter of motivation; students and fresh graduates should also submit their recent academic record, and a letter of recommendation by their supervisor. Registration is required before 27 December 2010; information about the result of the selection procedure will be sent before 4 January 2011.

Internships and guest positions
For well performing young students of the lecture activities we offer internship positions to continue some research topic at LabMath-Indonesia.
Senior staff who can contribute in the broad area of our research can get guest visitor positions with facilities and enumeration to be discussed. |
