Information and support to Indonesian students
going abroad for Masters or PhD

The decision to go abroad for study is one of the most far reaching decisions you will ever make. At present many universities in increasingly many countries offer good degree programmes. In many cases, partial or full scholarships are available from the university or from some national scholarship programme.
Master programmes in the engineering and natural sciences usually cover a period of two years; Masters in social sciences and management usually 1 year.     In USA and increasingly more other countries, Masters programmes are (become) connected to PhD study. In Europe the enrollment is usually still separated (requiring Masters before PhD), in USA often combined.

LMI gives support to potential candidates by providing general information, or more specific information for universities from our network.     In particular, LMI is the host of UT-ISO, the Indonesia Support Office for the University of Twente (UT), Netherlands.

Admission requirements differ slightly between universities and between specializations.
The usual requirements are:

  • a relevant Bachelor programme,
  • a high GPA, and
  • sufficient proficiency in English to be proved by test results, such as  IELTS score
Admission procedures differ substantially:
read web-information carefully and follow the required procedures precisely.
Start to look for positions at least one year before the start of the academic year you want to enrol.
Especially for requests for scholarships the deadlines are often very early, much erlier than for acceptance.
Note that it is NOT necessary to have finished your bachelor study at the moment of application, provided it can be expected that it will be finished successfully before the time of enrolment.

Visa are required for most Indonesian students going abroad; the procedures are (very) different for different countries.     Follow carefully the guidelines provided by the university of your choice.
